Verifying an employee degree: the 2025 change to Section 8(1)(j)
Degree verification: the 13 November 2025 change to Section 8(1)(j): clause (j) was substituted with effect from 13 November 2025 and now reads only "information which relates to personal information". The page now says so, says the public-activity and unwarranted-invasion tests are gone and must not be pleaded, names the two routes that survive (Section 8(2) and the proviso to Section 11(1)), adds Section 8(3) for a degree more than twenty years old, and carries the forty-day rule in Section 11(3). It also notes that the decisions allowing record-level authenticity were decided under the old clause. The answered question at /rti-questions/is-there-a-fee-for-rti-first-appeal is corrected in the same change: it understated the position on first-appeal fees and put Maharashtra at Rs. 50, where rule 5(1) of the Maharashtra RTI Rules 2026 sets Rs. 20. Is there a fee for an RTI first appeal?
First-appeal fees: the answer now states the position by source. For a Central public authority the central RTI Rules, 2012 prescribe no appeal fee. Maharashtra charges Rs. 20 for a first appeal under rule 5(1) of the Maharashtra RTI Rules 2026, notified on 7 July 2026 (Gazette Extraordinary Part IV-A No. 273), which supersede the rules of 12 June 2026. The earlier answer put Maharashtra at Rs. 50 and generalised across other states without a source, so those states are no longer named. Read from the gazette on 20 September 2026.

Andhra Pradesh RTI guide: fee correction
RTI guide fee correction: Andhra Pradesh carried a flat Rs 10 on this page while rule 3 of the 2005 Rules (G.O.Ms.No.454 dated 13 October 2005) sets no fee at village level, Rs 5 at mandal level and Rs 10 above that, so a filer at a mandal office was told to pay double. Maharashtra RTI guide: fee correction
RTI guide fee correction: The page said the Maharashtra RTI Rules 2026 charge Rs 30, Rs 5 a page and Rs 50 or Rs 100 on appeal, and require proof of citizenship or photo identity. The rules in force, notified 7 July 2026 in supersession of an earlier set of the same name, charge Rs 10, set copies at Rs 2 a page and each appeal at Rs 20, and contain no identity requirement at all. Punjab RTI guide: fee correction
RTI guide fee correction: Punjab showed Rs 50, which comes from rules the Punjab RTI Rules 2017 replaced. The 2017 Rules prescribe Rs 10 and allow an Indian Postal Order payable to the Accounts Officer. The state RTI portal was serving a maintenance page on 20 September 2026, so the page says where the figure comes from and asks the reader to confirm before paying.

Section 8(1)(j) corrected to the substituted clause: clause (j) was substituted with effect from 13 November 2025 by the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and now reads "information which relates to personal information". Pages that still described the earlier public-activity and unwarranted-invasion tests, or placed the public-interest override inside clause (j) rather than Section 8(2), were corrected.
