Sapan Kumar Jana
A retired defence serviceman who turned his own hard-won experience with the pension system into help for thousands of fellow pensioners — entirely as a volunteer.
Who is Mr. Sapan Kumar Jana?
After years of service in the Indian armed forces, Mr. Jana came face to face with a problem that troubles countless veterans and their families — the long, confusing fight to receive a pension that is rightfully theirs. Rather than accept the delays, he learned to use the Right to Information Act as a tool, and over time personally filed an estimated 70 to 80 RTI applications on defence pension matters.
That hands-on journey gave him something rare: a working, insider’s understanding of how defence pension files actually move — which office holds what record, where requests get stuck, and exactly what to ask for to break the logjam.
Why he joined FileMyRTI
Mr. Jana approached FileMyRTI with a simple wish: to help defence pensioners and their families who are struggling to get their dues. He has made clear that he is not seeking any payment or commercial benefit — his only motivation is to put his experience to work for people who need it. We are honoured to have him as a volunteer adviser.

Where his experience is deepest
Areas of defence pension where RTI commonly helps — and where Mr. Jana’s guidance is strongest:
“I know how hard a pensioner fights for what is rightfully his. If my experience can help even one family get their due, that is enough for me.”
