Passport grievance filed, application still stuck? Do this next
Your passport application has been stuck - often at police verification - and the grievance you registered has an SRN but no movement. Walk the official route below first, then use RTI to see exactly where the file is.
First, make sure the official route is exhausted
Still stuck? Put it on record with an RTI
For a passport stuck at police verification, an RTI to the CPIO of your Regional Passport Office can request the file status and the date the verification request went to police.
- The present status of passport application file number [YOUR FILE NO] and the stage it is pending at.
- The date on which the police verification request was sent, the police district/station it was sent to, and whether the verification report has been received.
- If the file is on hold, the reasons recorded for keeping it pending.
- A copy of the action-taken record against grievance SRN [YOUR SRN].
Under Section 7(1) of the RTI Act, the PIO is ordinarily required to respond within 30 days.
If the RTI reply does not arrive or is unsatisfactory, a First Appeal lies with the First Appellate Authority of the same public authority within 30 days.
We identify the likely record-holding public authority and frame the record-trail questions around your registration number.
