Still stuck? Put it on record with an RTI

If a grievance stays unresolved, an RTI to HMWSSB's PIO (its website's RTI section lists the APIO/PIO/AA of HMWSSB) can request the complaint record, action taken and recorded reasons.

What to ask for (quote your registration number):
  1. The present status of grievance number [YOUR NUMBER] registered against CAN [YOUR CAN], and the officer or section it is pending with.
  2. The action taken on the grievance as per the record, including any inspection or work order raised and its present status.
  3. If the grievance was closed, the date of closure and the reasons recorded.
  4. If the grievance concerns billing, the basis of the billing for the disputed period as per the record.

Under Section 7(1) of the RTI Act, the PIO is ordinarily required to respond within 30 days.

If the RTI reply does not arrive or is unsatisfactory, a First Appeal lies with the First Appellate Authority of the same public authority within 30 days.

Common questions

Which office actually holds my complaint? The grievance is worked by the HMWSSB operations section for your area; the complaint record sits with HMWSSB. Its website's RTI section lists the APIO, PIO and appellate authority of HMWSSB - address the RTI accordingly.
Will an RTI restore my water supply? An RTI cannot order restoration or repair. It provides access to the record - and can show the grievance status, any recorded work order, and any recorded reasons, for use in your next escalation.
Is my problem HMWSSB's or the municipal corporation's?Water supply, sewerage and water billing in the HMWSSB service area belong to HMWSSB, tracked against your CAN. If the issue falls outside HMWSSB's stated water, sewerage or billing scope, use the responsible department's grievance route - this page does not identify that authority.
