EPFiGMS grievance filed, PF still stuck? Do this next

You raised a grievance on EPFiGMS with your UAN or PPO, you have a registration number, and the money still has not moved - or the grievance was closed without the claim being settled. Walk the official route below first, then use RTI to put the claim file on record.

FileMyRTI is not a government website. The official route below involves no FileMyRTI charge - any official fee is the department's own, stated on its portal. Our paid help applies only at the RTI stage, if you choose it.

First, make sure the official route is exhausted

Step 1 - File correctly. File with your UAN (members) or PPO number (pensioners); OTP verification is mandatory.
Step 2 - Track it. Track with the registration number sent by SMS and email.
Step 3 - Know the timeline. No verified timeline is shown here - check the current rules on the official portal.
Step 4 - Escalate on the portal. Send a reminder from the portal; if pending beyond 15 days, escalate by email to rc.csd@epfindia.gov.in.

Still stuck? Put it on record with an RTI

If EPFiGMS closes your grievance without the money moving, an RTI to the CPIO of the concerned PF office linked to your UAN/PPO can request the claim file status, the officer it is pending with, and the recorded reason.

What to ask for (quote your registration number):
  1. The present status of the claim connected to grievance registration number [YOUR NUMBER] and UAN [YOUR UAN], and the officer or section it is currently pending with.
  2. If the claim was rejected or returned, a copy of the rejection/return noting with the reasons recorded.
  3. The dates on which the claim moved between sections, with copies of the file movement record.
  4. A copy of the action-taken/closure report recorded against the grievance registration number.

Under Section 7(1) of the RTI Act, the PIO is ordinarily required to respond within 30 days.

If the RTI reply does not arrive or is unsatisfactory, a First Appeal lies with the First Appellate Authority of the same public authority within 30 days.

Common questions

Which office actually holds my PF claim file?EPFiGMS forwards your grievance to the concerned PF office linked to your UAN/PPO, and that office holds the claim file. RTIs about the claim go to the CPIO of that PF office - EPFO is a public authority with designated CPIOs.
Will an RTI make EPFO settle my claim? An RTI cannot order settlement of a claim. It provides access to the information EPFO holds - the claim status, the section it is pending in, and the recorded reasons - which documents where and why it is stuck and grounds your next escalation.
Should I file the RTI instead of an EPFiGMS grievance?File the EPFiGMS grievance first - it is the channel built to fix the problem. RTI comes after: when the grievance is closed without the money moving or crosses the escalation stage, the RTI obtains the paper trail.
