Can I file an RTI anonymously? What details do I have to give?

General
FileMyRTI team answer

No - an RTI cannot be anonymous. You must give your name and a postal address for the reply. However, you do not have to give reasons for asking, and in most states no identity document is required with the application (exceptions exist: BPL applicants attach proof to claim the fee waiver, Maharashtra's 2026 rules require a self-attested photo ID, and Sikkim requires citizenship proof). If you fear retaliation, options include using your postal address without other personal details, or having FileMyRTI file it using only the details legally required for filing - the applicant's name and postal address are still required.
