Can I get copies of someone else's property documents through RTI?
PropertyRegistered documents (sale deeds, indexes, encumbrance entries) are public records maintained by Sub Registrar Offices, and certified copies are normally available - often through the state's copy-services portal even without RTI. But when an RTI seeks records tied to another person, the PIO weighs Section 8(1)(j) (personal information) case by case. Requests about property you own, are buying, or have a legal interest in are the strong use-case; fishing for a stranger's papers may be refused. For due-diligence needs, ask for the registered document by number/year rather than by the person's name.
