Rajasthan RTI Online Portal Help: Citizen Login, Department Search, e-Mitra Payment, Status Check and Offline Filing

Note: FileMyRTI is not a government website. This guide helps citizens use the official RTI portal correctly. If the portal does not support your department or filing route, FileMyRTI can help you file through the correct online or postal method.

Quick answer

You can file RTI applications and First Appeals online for Rajasthan Government departments and public authorities through the Rajasthan RTI portal at rti.rajasthan.gov.in. The portal uses Citizen Login / New Registration and supports online payment through e-Mitra, and it provides status links for RTI applications, First Appeals, Second Appeals and complaints. Do not use this portal for Central Government offices or other States. If your Rajasthan public authority is not available on the portal, file by post to the concerned PIO.

Go to rti.rajasthan.gov.in > Fee: The Rajasthan RTI portal says payment can be made online through e-Mitra. Follow the fee/payment amount shown by the portal during filing. BPL applicants should follow the exemption/document instructions shown by the portal or concerned authority.
CoversRajasthan Government offices, departments, organisations and public authorities available on the Rajasthan RTI portal. The portal allows citizens to file RTI applications and First Appeals online.
Does NOT coverCentral Government offices such as EPFO, Passport Office, Income Tax, central ministries and central PSUs, and public authorities of other States. For Central Government RTIs, use rtionline.gov.in.

Before you start, keep these ready

  • Your full name and postal address
  • A mobile number and email ID
  • Citizen login / registration details (create a login if you do not have one)
  • The Rajasthan department / public authority you want information from
  • Your RTI questions, written clearly in plain text
  • Any reference number, complaint number, file number, application number or registration number
  • A supporting document as a small PDF, if needed
  • BPL proof, if claiming the fee exemption
  • A payment method through the e-Mitra / online payment route shown by the portal
Good to know: The Rajasthan portal uses Citizen Login / New Registration - create a citizen login before filing if you do not already have one. It also provides department search, Find Officers, nodal officer details, downloadable forms, and status links for RTI applications, First Appeals, Second Appeals and complaints.

How filing works

  1. Open rti.rajasthan.gov.in.
  2. Use New Registration if you do not already have a citizen login, then log in through Citizen Login.
  3. Start the RTI application / request flow.
  4. Search and select the concerned Rajasthan department / public authority from the portal list.
  5. Enter your applicant details and postal address correctly.
  6. Write your RTI request in clear, plain language.
  7. Upload supporting documents only if relevant or required by the portal.
  8. Pay the applicable fee through the e-Mitra / online payment route shown by the portal, unless claiming a valid BPL exemption.
  9. Submit the application and save the acknowledgement / registration number.
  10. Use the portal status links later to check your application status.

Department search and officer selection

The Rajasthan portal has a "Departments using RTI Portal" section, department search, "Find Officers" and nodal officer / public authority links - use these before filing. Search using different names: a public authority may appear under a department, board, authority, corporation, district office, commissionerate, directorate or organisation name. Do not choose a random department just to proceed, as a wrong selection can delay the RTI or cause transfer/return.

If your department is not listed (the most common problem)

  • Look for the parent Rajasthan department - many offices sit under a larger public authority.
  • Search the department list using keyword variations (board, authority, corporation, directorate, district office, commissionerate, organisation).
  • If it is a Central Government office, use the Central RTI portal (rtionline.gov.in) - see our Central portal help.
  • If it is another State's public authority, use that State's RTI route.
  • If the Rajasthan public authority is genuinely not available, file by post to the concerned PIO - see our guide to filing RTI offline.
  • Use Section 6(3) transfer only after a reasonable effort to identify the correct public authority. See Section 6(3) explained.
  • Not sure which office or PIO? Use FindMyPIO, or let FileMyRTI identify it and file for you.

Common portal errors and how to fix them

Citizen login / registration not working

Check your registered mobile number/email, reset the password if available, clear the browser cache, or try another browser. If the portal continues failing and the matter is time-sensitive, file by post so you do not lose time.

Department / public authority not found

Use the department search and try parent department names. For boards, corporations, authorities, police offices, district offices, panchayats, municipalities and local bodies, check whether they appear under a larger department or organisation. If still not available, file by post to the PIO.

e-Mitra payment failed, or amount debited but application not confirmed

Do not pay again immediately. Save the payment/reference number, check the application status, and use the portal support route before making another payment. If nothing is generated and the matter is urgent, file by post and keep Speed Post proof.

RTI text not accepted

Remove bullets, emojis, smart quotes, copied formatting and unusual symbols. Paste your draft into Notepad first, then copy the plain text into the portal. Use short numbered questions and simple punctuation.

Supporting document upload failed

Use a small PDF and remove spaces and special characters from the file name. Upload only documents relevant to your RTI or specifically required by the portal. If claiming BPL exemption, attach valid BPL proof.

No acknowledgement / registration number generated

Do not assume the RTI was filed. Check the application status and your email/SMS. Keep screenshots and payment details. If no record appears and your matter is urgent, file by post.

Status not visible

Use the portal status links - Application Status, First Appeal Status, Second Appeal Status, Complaint Status, Panchayat/Ward-wise, District-wise and PIO-wise Application Status. If status is still unclear, contact technical support or file offline if the matter is urgent.

Filing a First Appeal

The Rajasthan portal supports First Appeals for RTIs filed through the portal - use your original registration / acknowledgement details to file the First Appeal online. If your RTI was filed physically by post, file the First Appeal physically to the First Appellate Authority of the same public authority, unless that authority provides an online appeal route. The portal provides status links for Second Appeals and complaints; to FILE a Second Appeal or complaint, follow the Rajasthan Information Commission / official portal instructions - it is not part of this RTI / First Appeal filing flow.

When to use a State portal or file offline instead

  • The Rajasthan public authority is not available on the portal.
  • Citizen login/registration or e-Mitra payment is repeatedly failing.
  • The matter belongs to Central Government or another State.
  • The correct department/public authority is unclear, or you want a Speed Post trail as proof.
  • You already know the PIO address and prefer postal filing, or you need to attach documents easier to send physically.

For the postal route, see how to file an RTI offline (by post), including how to attach the fee.

Postal RTI packet checklist

  • Signed RTI application
  • Correct fee instrument or BPL proof
  • Supporting document, if needed
  • Envelope addressed to the PIO / public authority
  • Your return address
  • A photo or photocopy of the full packet before dispatch
  • The Speed Post or registered post receipt
