only part of your land was acquired, but the whole survey number is marked acquired?

Start by comparing the acquired-land entry in Bhu Bharati with the acquisition proceedings for your survey number. If the document covers a smaller extent, keep both records ready for the official grievance route below. If you cannot obtain the proceedings, or your grievance has stalled without a clear recorded reason, an RTI can request the missing records.

RTI cannot itself correct the entry, decide ownership or award compensation.

start with the official Bhu Bharati route

You can approach the government directly without buying FileMyRTI's assistance.

The official portal describes a service called “Grievance related to Lands Acquired” for this specific problem. It asks for passbook details, the survey number, the actual acquired extent and acquisition proceedings showing the pattadar's name, survey number and extent. Its published explanation describes examination by the Collector and an order approving or rejecting the request. It describes changes to the remaining-land/passbook entry following approval. Official acquired-land grievance guidance (https://bhubharati.telangana.gov.in/ApplicationStatus)

Before applying:

  1. Save the current land entry and note the date you checked it
  2. Gather the relevant acquisition order and its land schedule, if available
  3. Enter the area in the units used in your documents; do not silently convert acres-and-guntas notation into decimal acres
  4. Check the current service instructions and any fee shown before submitting
  5. Keep the acknowledgement, submitted documents and any order or message you receive

Use Bhu Bharati (https://bhubharati.telangana.gov.in/) and its application-status page (https://bhubharati.telangana.gov.in/ApplicationStatus) to check an existing request. If the service is unavailable or your papers do not fit its requirements, seek guidance from the relevant revenue office and retain a written acknowledgement of any representation.

when requesting records is useful

Consider RTI when you have a specific gap:

If an existing download or ordinary certified-copy service supplies the document you need, use that route first. For example, the Nirmal district Survey and Land Records page describes certified survey-record copies and subdivision records sent to Tahsildars. Check the equivalent service in your own district. Official survey-record service information (https://nirmal.telangana.gov.in/ad-survey-and-land-records/)

which office should receive the RTI?

Choose the office holding the requested record. The officer who decides a correction and the office holding an older acquisition file may be different.

Do not send every question to the Sub-Registrar merely because a sale or registration is blocked. A registration-refusal record is a separate request.

For State public authorities, check the official Telangana RTI portal (https://rti.telangana.gov.in/). If your authority cannot be selected there, use its verified postal RTI route. A Central authority's records require that authority's route, even when the land is in Telangana. See our Telangana portal guide (https://filemyrti.com/rti-portal-help/telangana) or use FindMyPIO (https://filemyrti.com/tools/find-my-pio).

record requests you can adapt

Select the questions that match the gap. Separate requests may be appropriate where different public authorities hold the files. Ask for the relevant survey number, subdivision, location and period rather than the entire project's records.

A. if the acquisition order or acquired extent is missing

To: the PIO of the public authority holding the acquisition file for [project, village, mandal, district]

Subject: records of acquisition affecting survey number [number/subdivision]

Please provide the following existing records relating to Survey No. [number], [village], [mandal], [district], for [project/file number, if known], during [relevant period]:

  1. Certified copies of the applicable acquisition notification, declaration and final acquisition proceedings or award, with the portions of their schedules identifying this survey number and acquired extent, to the extent held and disclosable
  2. Copies of amendments or corrigenda affecting that survey number, subdivision or extent
  3. A copy of the approved acquisition plan or sketch held with the file, showing the affected portion and its recorded extent
  4. A copy of the possession or land-handover record for that portion, if held
  5. Copies of communications sent to the revenue or land-records office for updating the acquisition entry, with their dates, references and enclosures relating to this survey number

I am not requesting unrelated owners' bank-account or payment details.

B. if the acquired-land grievance is pending or rejected

To: the PIO of the revenue office holding application [reference]

Subject: records concerning acquired-land grievance [reference/date]

For my application [reference] dated [date], concerning Survey No. [number/subdivision], [village, mandal, district], please provide:

  1. The existing status record and file-movement entries, including dates of receipt and forwarding and the office/designation currently holding the file
  2. Copies of the scrutiny notes, verification reports and correspondence concerning the acquired extent and the remaining extent
  3. Copies of any deficiency notice, objection, return endorsement or rejection order, with the reasons recorded in the file
  4. A copy of the final order, if issued, and records of its dispatch or communication to the applicant and implementing office
  5. Copies of implementation instructions and entries recording action taken on that order, if any
  6. The applicable order, circular or instructions identifying the competent authority, required documents and any prescribed disposal period for this service

C. if the sketch or subdivision trail is the missing piece

To: the PIO of the relevant Survey and Land Records office

For Survey No. [number/subdivision], [village, mandal, district], acquisition file [reference, if known], please provide certified copies of the approved acquisition/subdivision sketch, relevant measurement and area statements, subdivision proceedings and communications forwarding the completed records for revenue-record implementation, to the extent held and disclosable.

If the requested work is incomplete, please provide the existing status and file-movement records, assigned officer's designation, and any recorded deficiency or pending requirement. This request seeks existing records; it does not ask for a fresh survey or a newly prepared map.

before filing

Add your name, contact address, the necessary parcel/file identifiers and the applicable fee or exemption proof. Check the fee and accepted payment method for the particular authority; a single fee does not apply to every Telangana office level.

You may include: “If any specified item is held by another public authority, please transfer the relevant part under Section 6(3), where applicable, and inform me. Please provide the remaining disclosable information held by your office.”

Under the RTI Act, the ordinary response period is 30 days from receipt, subject to applicable provisions. That is an RTI response period, not a promise that the land entry will be corrected. Disclosure may be limited by exemptions; severable portions can be considered separately. If the reply is missing or incomplete, assess the First Appeal route and its deadline. what to compare when the records arrive

A mismatch is a reason to investigate with the appropriate office. A missing record in one reply does not prove that no such record exists elsewhere. Keep the reply and enclosures with your correction papers; obtain case-specific advice where their legal effect is disputed.

tell us what is missing

To assess whether RTI assistance fits your case, start with:

  1. District, mandal, village and survey/subdivision number
  2. The exact acquired-land entry or message you see
  3. The original extent, the extent you understand was acquired, and the units used
  4. The project name and acquisition order/award reference, if known
  5. Whether you have the order, schedule or sketch
  6. Any Bhu Bharati grievance reference, date and current status
  7. The specific record you need or the unanswered part of the grievance
  8. Any notice, rejection order or court proceeding with a deadline

You can say “not known” where a reference is missing. Do not include Aadhaar, bank-account details or unrelated owners' documents in an initial enquiry. Share only the relevant extracts needed to identify the issue through the service's appropriate private channel.

important limits

An RTI seeks existing information held by a public authority. It does not itself remove an acquired-land entry, restore a passbook, establish title, conduct a survey, undo acquisition or fix compensation. It does not pause a notice, objection, appeal or court deadline. Get prompt legal advice if a deadline or disputed ownership is involved.

If the block is a Section 22-A prohibited-property entry, a general extent error, or an ongoing road-widening notice, the next step may differ. Use the relevant guide below rather than assuming every blocked survey number is a partial-acquisition error.
